We had limited time for this assignment, about three weeks including research and execution. We rapidly put together interviews and surveys with Kenyans and people who have been living in Kenya. At the same time we started researching about the country. We soon learned that branding the whole country without stepping on some toes would be very difficult, seeing that Kenya has over 40 tribes and many different religions. We learned that many Kenyans are improving their standard of living, yet desire greater access to information. Rather than prescribe a solution we designed a brand, as a platform upon which enterprising Kenyans build and exchange information that matters to them.

Mobile phone usage are growing rapidly in Kenya, providing Kenyans with an easy way of exchanging money and information. We wanted to utilize this and base our branding on a mobile platform accessible to as many Kenyans as possible.

“o.ne.ke” ("ne.ke" being a Kenyan domain), or One Kenya is a text message and mobile web platform that hosts fact-oriented, moderated Question-and-Answer dialogues among entrepreneurs in formal and informal markets. The campaign around this emphasizes transparency and Kenyas rapid growth, highlighting single entrepreneurs or for example news articles about Kenyan progress.

For the graphic branding we choose primary colors that were a modern take on the Kenyan colors green and red, with an accent color of blue when needed. The font "Century Gothic Bold" was chosen for it's simple geometric shapes, and is used both in copy and the logo for o.ne.ke.

Select the the people or companies that are your favorites to follow. Wake up with the tweets that you missed last night.

Made by me and Sander Kuypers

"BRIEF":For this concept we didn't have a brief but we only had this short late night Skype chat:

Sander: I got a nice idea the tweet alarm clock. Wake up with your freshest news. Your alarm clock turns on and directly you get your latest tweets.

Gustaf: Ooh yeah! that's a good one.
Gustaf: hahaha nightly ideas
Gustaf really good

Sander: And everyone knows when you are awake ! when you turn of your alarm clock or when you sleep when you setup your alarm clock.

Gustaf: Hehehe yeah a tweet i ' am now awake or some custom shit

Sander: Exactly i have to tell it because it keeps me awake. Let's work it out?

Gustaf: So it's like a rss in a way.. you set your favorite pages… you set your social networks… it combines in to a newspaper. top news, top tweets and so on everything that happens since you went to sleep.

Sander: Exactly we are on the right page.

Gustaf: Heheheh and think if you have the snooze.. so when you you send a tweet"I just snoozed" Stop my snooze by using the hashtag #gustafstopsnooze" or something if someone doesn't tweet that you just snooze for 15 min.

Sander: Hahahah yeah that's fun We got something good here.</description>

The website was recently redesigned by Doberman and was in the process of being improved further. That being the case our group decided to leave the basic design as it was but to add more features. The audio player was positioned at the top instead of the bottom of the page and we built in capabilities for Sveriges Radio to add content (like youtube videos or articles related to what you are currently listening to) on top of the audio.

We also saw the need for Sveriges Radio to focus more on their extensive audio library and not let it be overshadowed by the written articles. Therefore we constructed a player which lets you browse, search and organize only the audio.

EXTRA VIDEO:Since we were the last group of ten on presentation day we wanted to do something special to keep our audience awake. We made a movie (that you see last on this page) explaining the benefits of segmenting the audio in a fun way.
In the video: Max Norman
Edited and shot by Hampus Lemhag.

MY PART:I was involved in the concept part of this project and was the one making the final design and mockup video of the site.

Our group made an interactive shopping window concept where people walking by are in control of the video playing in the window.

PROCESS:This project had a very open brief, to connect a streetwear brand [who all the sudden don't want to be involved in this project and therefore will be referred to as "[brand]"] to art and/or music. And to make an impression so good that people want to be the first to share it.

This was a seven week long module. We started naturally with research around the brand [brand] and interviewing people about their impressions of the brand. We soon found out that the impressions of the brand varied a lot, and the brand payoff is [brand slogan], which as well is kind of open.
We saw that there was a gap between the brand with it's so called "activists" (cool sponsored people within street art) and the customer on the street. So in one way or another we wanted to showcase the activist and connect them closer to the [brand] customer.

Our first inspiration was from a project called "My little piece of privacy" which in a very basic but intelligent way caught the attention of bypasses on the street. At the same time we got inspired by Kokokaka's site for Wrangler Bluebell and how captivating slow motion is in it's simplicity. It feels new even though the technique is old.

One criteria we set up early in the process was that whatever we do it should be very easy to engage in, it shouldn't require extra effort from the user in order to work. We decided to do an interactive display window in the [brand]-stores. In the video we use the activists as models, wearing the [brand]-clothes of the season.

Our first ideas depended on multiple layers of action in the video activated by multiple persons walking by. We choose to simplify the process so that it focuses only on one person walking by at the time. We thought that this made the concept more easy to understand and the impression for the one person in control greater.

It was very important that the basics of the execution was clean and simple, only back and forth movement is registered and only one person at the time is in control. Everything, even the walls are directed to the one person in control of the video.

ONLINE EXPERIENCE:At the same time the scenery in the window is created by users online. With a kaleidoscope tool people are able to upload their own patterns, choose their activist of choice and where in the world to upload their scenery.
The person engaging on the street gets to see the name and info of the activist and the one who created the scenery, tying them all closer together.

MY PART:I was highly involved in the concept process and making the final production from recording to production of the mockup in After Effects and creating the case movie

REACTIONS:We uploaded the video on Vimeo and got it published on the design blog NotCot, after that we got a feature on Fubiz and The Fox is Black, after that the video rapidly spread all over the world:
In two days we had over 26.000 views, 80.000 loads from over 130 countries. 400 people liked the video on Vimeo, over 300 blogs embedded and wrote about it. It was Tweeted by Ogilvy, DDB, Berlin Cameron, Seth Weisfeld at Wieden+Kennedy, HUGE and many more. And the numbers and good reactions keep growing.
